What Peoples Say
“I first connected with Dr. Anstey in the summer before my junior year of college. At the time, I was struggling with continuing on the premedical path as I was battling bouts of depression, financial instability at home, and low grades in my science classes. I was honest about my shortcomings and the advice I received not to continue on the premed track, but Dr. Anstey dug deep to uncover my true narrative and the grief I had yet to overcome. She asked about my circumstances in a way my professors didn't, and she reminded me of the importance of feeling and managing my emotions to continue to learn and grow.

Two years later and I am now a college graduate (class of 2020). Shortly after graduating, I reached out to Dr. Anstey again because I knew I needed to become a physician. However, I was worried about the feasibility of it all because I did not finish the medical school prerequisites and I graduated with a subpar GPA (and even lower science GPA). Dr. Anstey was calm and straight to the point, she told me that I needed to retake my introductory science courses and aim for A's in my classes, to show that I once struggled and am now able to thrive in spite of what I went through. This conversation set my next steps in motion as I researched and applied to post baccalaureate and second bachelor's degree programs. Dr. Anstey also helped revise and reframe my disadvantaged student statement to better highlight my struggles and the growth mindset I had adopted throughout the years. What I once chalked up to being "an unfair event that happened to me" became "a milestone that helped me further realize my passion for medicine."

…. I am confident about my next steps because I feel prepared to succeed with Dr. Anstey's unwavering support. She has truly helped focus my dreams by helping me solidify my unique path to medical school, and I am confident that one day I will become a physician, in large part, due to her mentorship”.
